For Windows Client/Server Explanation: In a Client/Server environment, the screen sets are loaded in to the Client's memory and the programs are loaded in to the Server's memory. The processing of the data happens on the Server and only the results (if applicable) are transported across the network to the Client, reducing the network traffic. The Server can be either Windows NT Server or one of a selection of Unix platforms that are supported. For Terminals Unix Login Explanation: In a Unix Server environment the programs and data reside on the Server and either a dumb terminal, or a PC using an emulator, login to Unix and invoke the Unix programs. The programs are loaded in to the Unix Server's memory and the data is processed there. Only the screen display and keystrokes are sent across the network or serial cable. ODBC Multiple-Tier Explanation: The Multiple-Tier ODBC is for use in a Client/Server environment where the data, UDD file and some drivers reside on the Server. Other drivers reside on the Client. When data is accessed some manipulation may happen on the Server and some on the Client, depending on how the query is constructed.
