Windows or Character

CDI Premium is the generic name for the Computer Distributors, Inc. line of business software, which is a fully integrated accounting software system for retailers, distributors and other environments. The CDI Premium product line consists of CDI Premium for terminals (Character version) and CDI Premium for Windows (Windows® version). Both versions can work simultaneously on the same server. This allows the customer to mix Terminals and Windows pc's on the same installation.

CDI Premium for Windows is designed to provide an easy-to-use graphical interface for controlling and delivering real-time information across an organization through a single consistent user interface.  Compatibility with Microsoft® Word, Excel, Access, Exchange, Outlook and other Windows® packages provides additional flexibility and functionality to CDI Premium for Windows.

CDI Premium addresses a number of spheres that are crucial to the efficient daily management of a company’s information resources.

For Windows Client/Server Explanation:

In a Client/Server environment, the screen sets are loaded in to the Client's memory and the programs are loaded in to the Server's memory. The processing of the data happens on the Server and only the results (if applicable) are transported across the network to the Client, reducing the network traffic. The Server can be either Windows NT Server or one of a selection of Unix platforms that are supported.

For Terminals Unix Login Explanation:

In a Unix Server environment the programs and data reside on the Server and either a dumb terminal, or a PC using an emulator, login to Unix and invoke the Unix programs. The programs are loaded in to the Unix Server's memory and the data is processed there. Only the screen display and keystrokes are sent across the network or serial cable.

ODBC Multiple-Tier Explanation:

The Multiple-Tier ODBC is for use in a Client/Server environment where the data, UDD file and some drivers reside on the Server. Other drivers reside on the Client. When data is accessed some manipulation may happen on the Server and some on the Client, depending on how the query is constructed.

New Releases

Future enhancements are determined by worldwide trends and by current users' needs. Users under contract submit program modification requests and  these are evaluated , if a request is feasible and convenient for the users it is added to the software. It is also acknowledged that there must be an "openness" for added operational solutions to successfully compete in today's competitive environment. Specialized add-ons can be written in any compatible language and then integrated with CDI Premium's core modules.
